MTC Club Race Day
First time at a MTC club race day, here's what you can expect
Before race day
Register online:
We offer online registration for all our club races (excluding the Spring pre-season duathlon events).
Please register online before race day for a smooth race day experience. Our registration lists are usually printed the night before the race, so while you can still register online on race morning, however registering later means your name won't be on the printed lists so your race day registration process will be a little slower.
Race day - Before the race
1 hour before race start:
Volunteers will arrive approximately 1 hour before the start of the race and will start setting up the bike racks and race equipment. Many hands make light work so feel free to arrive early and help out. It's a great way to settle those race day nerves.
Once the bike racks are set up you can rack your bike anywhere and set up your transition. We try to allow 5 bikes per rack so you will have plenty of room. Your transition should include everything you will need for racing (swim gear, cycle gear and running gear). Please move your bag out of transition once you are set up.
Registration opens approximately 45 minutes before the start of the race and closes 10 minutes before race start. If you have registered online then you just need to give the registration coordinator your name and they will let you know your race number and will give you your timing chip. If you have not registered online then you will need to complete a registration form with all your required information and personal details. Your timing chip goes onto your left ankle (so it's away from your bike chain when riding) and stays there until you cross the finish line at the end of the race. Please note, if your timing chip is covered by your wetsuit it will reduce its effectiveness.
10 minutes before race start:
The race briefing will be held 10 minutes before the start of the race. The Race Director will explain the course and will discuss any safety requirements specific to today's event as well as if it is a beach or deep water race start.
During the race
Race start:
The race starts with a mass start either on the beach or in the water (deep water start) depending on the water conditions on the day. Everyone will line up and the Race Director will start the race with a loud siren.
Follow the race course and complete your event. There are plenty of volunteers providing assistance at key locations throughout the event.
Please note as we do not have road closures you must obey all Australian Road Traffic Laws at all times. Give way to cars, keep left, ride with care.
After the race
Once you have crossed the finish line it's time to celebrate. Remove your timing chip and place it in the bucket provided, then cheer on any athletes still racing.
After the last person has crossed the finish line it's time to start packing up. Pack up your own transition area and gear and stow it into your car. When the bikes are all off the racks we will start dismantling them and packing them up. Please feel free to hang around and help. We regularly go for breakfast after everything is packed up and you are welcome to come along and spend time talking about triathlon with others who are equally addicted to this crazy sport.
